Growing up I spent my time between Pennsylvania and New York- this created a self identity  crisis for myself. On one hand, I felt like my talents were often ignored compared to my white peers but in New York I felt welcomed and cherished. As a young, black, girl growing up in a small town I felt as if there was very little I could do to succeed- I felt that society had wanted me to diminish all that I could be. In my heart I knew that I needed to leave in order to be treated with the respect, creativity, and intelligence that I had. I write this to let all young, black children know you can do anything, there is so much you can accomplish, aim for the stars! Don’t ever let anyone make you feel little, or that you aren’t good enough for something. Let me end with this, I wasn’t an A student, but I was someone who was motivated to do my best. That said, do your best and learn to motivate yourself as well!
